Local #8 has a very active apprentice program. For the past several years, in conjunction with the International Masonry Institute, Local #8 has held a 12-week pre-apprentice school in Rantoul, Illinois. Here the new apprentices are taught the fundamentals of brick and block laying. This is a "hands on" course and when they have successfully completed the course they are better prepared to go out to a job site and be a productive member of the crew. Requirements for applying for apprenticeship are given under each individual Chapter.
Benefits are paid to various Health & Welfare funds based on where you are working. It is YOUR responsibility to be sure the benefits you are earning are being sent back to your home fund. When you go on a job site outside of your area be sure to ask the Field Representative for the form or call the main office (618) 234-5340 and we will send you one.
Many members think because they have filled out a beneficiary designation card with the Local Union or International Union that this beneficiary designation applies to the Local Pension Plan, the International Pension Plan or the Health and Welfare Plan. This IS NOT the case, every pension or health and welfare has to have a beneficiary card on file with an original signature of you. Take the time to check with your pension or health & welfare fund office to make sure they have a beneficiary card on file. At the main office we have beneficiary designation cards for the International Pension Fund and Bricklayers Local #8 Pension Fund that we can mail to you if needed. By doing this you will save your loved ones a lot of time and effort at their time of grief.
